Why, Doctor, I Had NO Idea You Were So Sexy!
Dr. Scholl's
When I used to think of Dr. Scholl's shoes, I thought of those wooden sandals that promised to work your leg muscles due to the bump on the ball of the foot bed and I thought of conservative shoes for the conservative people who sought comfort over style.
Well, I took another look at Dr. Scholl's and wow. Times have changed. Dr. Scholl's is bursting with awesome looking shoes and boots! They do also offer a few styles of the famous wooden exercise sandals which are coming back in style once again.
What the Site Sells
Original Dr. Scholl's shoes, sandals and boots. And on their subsites, athletics, slippers, casuals, and accessories.
Navigation
This site is very simple. There aren't hundreds of styles so it isn't hard to navigate the site and see all the offerings.
Categories include View All, New Arrivals, Dress, Boots, Casual, and Sale.
You can search by color or size or a combination of both.
You can sort the results many ways and everything is super simple to do.
The footwear is very today and very hip. You won't see any "comfortable but ugly" shoes on this site but you CAN see them on a sister site which I will get into in a minute. Many are high heels and platforms with a smattering of great looking, stylish ballerina flats.
Choose a shoe to look at more closely and you can see eight views. The photos are large and detailed. Descriptions are great. Choose your size and color choice and cart the footwear you want.
It isn't very evident, but there are also two offshoot sites on this one. Look at the bottom right of the site and you will see the links. One is for Dr. Scholl's casual collection of men's, women's, and kids' shoes, athletics, and slippers. Another link will take you to a site with just accessories of which there are just three.
I don't know why everything isn't all together but the site is actually broken down into three sites all within one. Weird.
Anyway, if you want footwear on the main site, just add it to your cart. Go off and look at and buy the casuals if you want and everything ends up in one big cart so you aren't really shopping on three sites at all.
You will see your cart at all times after clicking to add an item. Shipping is free so there are no worries there.
When you have finished shopping, you head to the checkout.
Now it gets weird! The site asks if you are a returning shoes.com customer. Huh? Apparently, the Dr. Scholl's subsites are partnered with Shoes.com. I was confused. At any rate, you need to input your email address and let them know if you are new or returning to shoes.com. I did find this bit of info when looking at the "About Us" page: Every order placed through Dr. Scholl's is handled by Shoes.com, the largest online retailer of footwear for the whole family...OK, so now that was cleared up.
You will then be asked for the usual personal info. You will pick a password and even a "secret question" and answer in case you forget the password.
Regular shipping is free but there are two expedited shipping methods you can choose for a fee.
Lastly, input your major credit card number, expiry, and three digit verification number into the fields and you are done.
You will see a confirmation screen and get a confirmation letter. When the order is sent out, you will get a shipping and tracking letter.
Normal orders arrive within a week or so and expedited ones arrive within their timeframe.
My Experience
I found this site when my brother in law asked me if I would look around on the net for some Dr. Scholl's boots he had seen for my sister. He loved the boots but her size wasn't available and he wondered if the boots were sold online.
I did a search for Dr. Scholl's and this site came up.
I was immediately struck by the coolness of the shoes. They are really hot shoes and boots. As a shoe lover, I forgot all about what I was supposed to be doing and ooohed and ahhed over the shoes and wickedly cool looking boots.
The exact boots my brother in law wanted for my sister weren't on the "casual" subsite but I ended up buying a hot pair of shoes that look great with my skinny jeans.
Prices are not cheap. The shoes I bought were $69.00 and not anything more than wickedly high pumps but Dr. Scholl's knows how to make shoes. For one, they all have memory foam inserts which make walking in normally uncomfortable shoes a dream.
I wasn't charged tax and shipping was free.
The process was very simple from start to finish and the most time was spent looking at all the shoes and deciding which I liked best (and didn't already have seven similar pairs of).
I received a confirmation email from Dr. Scholl's, not shoes.com, and a shipping email a day later.
My order arrived in six days with the return address of Dr. Scholl's and the invoice also was from Dr. Scholl's.
Returns are free to ship back. I didn't have to send my shoes back but my invoice (and the site) said that I could return the shoes if they were ill fitting for free.
If you need to return footwear, you do not return them to shoes.com but to Dr. Scholl's. You can get a label from the site by printing one or calling and asking for one to be sent to you. You will ship back to Dr. Scholl's not shoes.com.
The shoes were and are awesome. They fit great and the insoles are like walking on a cloud. I can wear high-heeled shoes again without screaming in pain! Yes!
The packing was fine and, essentially, the order couldn't have gone more smoothly.
Oh, and my brother in law found the Dr. Scholl's boots he was looking for without my help and bought them for my sister who loves them. So, I didn't TOTALLY let him down because I got greedy. OK, I did but everything ended up fine in the end.
Shipping and Returns
Ground UPS shipping is free in the US for any order.
Second day and next day shipping is available for a fee.
Tax is only charged in California, Missouri, Kentucky, and Tennessee.
Returns are not only accepted, they are free to send back.
You can print a prepaid label from the site or call and ask for one to be sent to you. Use that to return unworn shoes for a credit or exchange. You will not be charged for the return shipping to them or shipping of your exchange back to you. I love that policy.
Conclusion
I didn't start out looking to buy shoes from Dr. Scholl's but I am glad I did. The process was so simple and the shoes are really well made and comfortable. The prices aren't super low but they are worth a little extra.
My order was handled quickly and efficiently and everything went exactly how it should go.
I like the no shipping and free returns policy a lot and not being charged tax was a plus.
In all, I have no complaints whatsoever about this site and the subsites. The only teeny quibble I have is that I wish they offered more styles and variety but what the DO offer is excellent.
If you like Dr. Scholl's footwear whether it is stylish and snappy or comfy and casual this site has several styles you can't find in stores.
5 stars for the memory foam insoles and the Dr. Scholl's website(s). You really couldn't ask for more from an online store.
