I love Harley Davidson brand stuff and, even though I don't own a bike (and am scared to let the driver of one I am on go faster than about four miles an hours), I love the look and quality of genuine Harley products.
I have a lot of HD products from boots to watches to clothing but, on this shopping excursion, I was shopping for someone else for Christmas. I found H&M Harley-Davidson Online Store through a search and found everything I wanted — and then some.
What the Site Sells
Everything Harley — bikes, clothing, parts, jewelry, accessories, boots, helmets. You get the idea.
The Website
The site is set up fairly well with many ways to search and several category links to browse. All informative info is linked at the top so you don't have to search for information about shipping, policies, and contact numbers.
You can search by keyword or click on one of the many category links across the top and down the left side of the home page.
You can also shop by part number if you are there for bike parts.
Click on a category and there is a list of subcategories along with several photos of relevant merchandise. When you see something you like, you can view it larger and at different angles. Descriptions are somewhat sparse but ample enough to give you simple info. They tell you on the page which sizes are in stock so you are never disappointed thinking you found what you wanted only to see that the item or size is out of stock.
You will see your cart after every choice. On the day I shopped on the site, I got a 10% discount and really didn't know why. I guess they were having a promotion. I sure didn't complain!
Shipping is free for orders over $249.00 and the cart will tally your items and let you know how much you need to add to get the magic number for free shipping.
When you are ready to checkout, you will roll on over to the checkout area and begin the process.
You must set up an account with the site if you don't have one already. I don't like being forced to set up an account but you just need to fill in the usual stuff — name, email, address, phone number — and pick a user name and password.
You have a choice of several different shipping methods and speeds. Chose one and continue on. I should note that, although they advertise free shipping for orders over $249.00, my order was only $199.00 and I got free shipping. I don't know why but, again, I wasn't about to complain about that!
They accept all major credit cards and Paypal as well as CODs, money orders, checks, and gift cards.
Choose your payment method and you are done. You will get an automatic order confirmation immediately.
A shipping email will arrive quickly thereafter with a tracking number.
Your order should arrive in under a week. There is a chart that gives approximate dates of arrival for each shipping method and, for my order, it was very accurate.
My Experience
This site isn't the least expensive Harley site on the net but they have a lot of variety and some unique items. I chose what I wanted and added the items to my cart.
The site keeps track of your recently viewed items making browsing and buying easier. I often see things I like then move on, then later realize I want the item I had looked at before. Then I can't find it. This way, I can refer back to my viewed items and not be so lost.
There isn't a lot of frills on the site. By this I mean, not a lot of fanciness nor any up selling. It's a Harley site for people who know what Harley items they want or at least have a working knowledge of how the brand fits and wears.
I had no trouble at all finding what I wanted and, while the price was a bit higher than I would have liked, the 10% discount brought it down to exactly where I wanted it to be.
I had no problems with checkout. I used a Visa and I was done with registration and purchasing in minutes.
I got my confirmation email and, the next day, a shipping one.
My order arrived in five days, well packaged and smelling SO Harley. Really. Harley stuff has a Harley scent I can't describe. But anyway...
I was pleased with the quality of jacket I bought and hated to part with it. It's wrapped and ready to give to my Harley riding friend. I feel confident that I bought the real thing and that the quality is consistent with the Harley name.
Shipping and Returns
Shipping is free for orders over $249.00 but I got free shipping with a $199.00 order. No complaints about that! I wasn't charged tax. No complaints about that either!
Shipping charges are really confusing and their explanation of those charges is even more so. They say that they estimate shipping charges but that the charge could be vastly wrong. They charge only actual shipping charges plus a small handling fee and you can decide if you want to know the exact shipping charge before approving the order or just let the site charge your card for the charge.
Ehh ... I don't like that too much. I would definitely want to know what my shipping charge was before approving any order. I didn't have to deal with that though so I am not sure how it all works. It seems there is a better way of calculating shipping than that though.
Only those in Ohio are charged tax. For once, we New Yorkers are spared!
You can return any new, unopened item for full credit within 30 days. If the packaging is damaged or the return arrives after 30 days, you will get an 80% credit.
Certain items that are special ordered are not returnable so definitely check their policy page before purchasing so you know what is and isn't able to be returned.
You must get an RMA from the company before returning items and shipping, as always, is non refundable.
Conclusion
This site has a lot of Harley items for serious riders and those who love Harley Davidson merchandise. It is geared more toward the serious rider with a bevy of parts and helmets and other riding gear but there are items for people like me who just love the quality and name.
This isn't the cheapest Harley site I have been to but it has authentic, unique items. The shipping policy is crazy though and, if you aren't getting free shipping with a $249.00 plus order, definitely request your correct shipping charge before authorizing an order. That only makes sense to me and, I am sure, to you.
They have lots of promotions from what I have been told by others who shop on the site and they do offer free shipping with a minimum order.
They supply a toll free number for questions and orders which is manned from morning until evening, which is a plus.
My order went smoothly and I have no complaints. I am not in love with their shipping set up but I didn't need to deal with that so I am not complaining.
I think their returns policy is fair and standard.
I give this site 4 stars. For the Harley Davidson lover, this site is like a candy store to a kid. It has loads of unique, quality items from very expensive to relatively inexpensive to choose from.
