I am a huge fan of natural bath and body products and, not long ago, a friend suggested that I check out Jeanne's Bath Shoppe Online Store for great hand made, natural bath and body products. Of course I did and I was very impressed with the prices, quality, and service.
Jeanne's has just reopened after a short hiatus and, boy am I glad. This is a site I will visit often for its unique, high quality bath and body products. The site's stock is still a bit limited but should be going strong again soon. It's worth the wait, trust me.
What the Site Sells
This site sells soaps, bath bombs, lotions and body butters, fragrances, scrubs, foot creams, salves, lip balms, and more. Everything is hand made and natural and the scent list is extensive.
Navigation and Ordering
This is a simple site with no razzle dazzle. There are categories across the left size and good photos of each product. Descriptions are full and easy to understand and the prices are clearly marked. Add items to you cart then, when you are finished shopping, go to the checkout area.
Checking out is quite different from other sites. You do not know your shipping charges at the time of check out as the site charges the exact shipping costs. If your order is over $65.00, shipping is free, otherwise, you will receive an email with the shipping charge. You will fill out your name and address as well as email and then choose a major credit card or PayPal. You then pay the exact charge of your products with a credit card or wait for your invoice if you choose PayPal.
You will receive a confirmation letter then, a day or so later, you will receive a letter from the site (Jeanne) telling you the exact cost of shipping, which is reasonable and the exact amount that it costs her to mail the products out. If you have an issue with the shipping charge, you can always email the site but I am sure you won't. There's no funny business going on with this site, I assure you.
It takes a few days for the order to be processed and then you will get a shipping notice. Your order will arrive packaged very nicely in pretty boxes and containers inside white paper bags. You will get samples as well which are generous and lots of fun.
My Experience
I was really excited about this new site. I love hand made natural soaps and was getting frustrated with LUSH's soaps. I ordered three medium sized soaps and a larger five ounce brick, plus three bath bombs, scrub, lotion, foot cream — the works. I wasn't worried about the shipping charges because I was reassured that the site was very honest and reliable and it was. I was charged a surprisingly low fee for shipping. I received letters from Jeanne as my order progressed and then my order arrived carefully and beautifully packed.
The soaps were all in boxes with labels and the scrubs were in glass jars. Everything was in white paper bags to keep things from mingling scents and possibly being ruined. In another white bag was a bunch of generous samples. The body butter and lotion samples were in little plastic "ketchup" containers with tops and the nicely sized square of soap was in a baggy. I enjoyed the samples and will order some of what I got as samples in full sizes.
I was very happy with my experience but I had yet to try the products. Although this isn't a review of the products, I have to say, they are very high quality and exceeded my expectations. The soaps don't melt immediately upon contact with water like many of my LUSH soaps do and the scrub is fragrant and very scrubby. The lotion is thick and the body butter is creamy and oh, so fragrant. I also loved the foot cream and will get more of that. It's very rich and soothing. The bath bombs were a great deal and are large and smell wonderful.
I really have no complaints whatsoever about this site or the products and absolutely will shop there again. In fact, right after I finish this review!
Shipping and Returns
As I mentioned above, shipping is the exact cost that Jeanne pays. You will have a chance to see and review your shipping charges well before the items ship. You will receive free shipping in the US on all orders over $65.00 in the US and international orders will receive half price shipping on orders over $65.00. That's one way to avoid guessing about shipping costs! You can opt to get a quote on shipping charges before paying by emailing the site and PayPal customers will get a PayPal invoice with their order and shipping and will pay the total together. That is how I paid for my order.
The return policy is a step above other bath and body sites. You can return anything within 30 days for a refund or exchange. That is very rare especially for a hand made, natural bath and body products site. I doubt they get many returns from what I have tried though.
Tax is only charged to New Jersey residents.
Recommendation
Jeanne's Bath Shoppe Online Store is an excellent natural bath and body products site. The scent list is varied and inviting and the products are very reasonably priced. Customer service couldn't be better. Jeanne herself deals with customers and I have found that smaller sites like this often give the best service. So true with this one. I was very pleased at the friendly level of communication I had throughout the ordering process.
Quality of all the items I tried was way above my expectations. The prices are so fair that I expected something less but got a real bargain. I was worried when I saw the site was temporarily closed but am happy to report it is opened again and getting up to speed and should be offering everything once again soon. This closing had nothing to do with a financial issue — it was a personal one. Small sites run by one person often have to take a break when real life steps in and demands that the owner do so. However, I am thrilled to see the site up again and I am off to make a new order.
I recommend this site to anyone who enjoys natural bath and body products. I give it 5 stars. I am very pleased with all aspects of my shopping experience.
