You're a Geek but I Like Having Nooners With You. A Good Site for Computer Nerds!
Pacific Geek
I am not a computer geek at all and know very little about electronics in general. However, I do know enough to order keyboards, mice, and other peripherals plus I have loads of electronics that always need accessories and two computer geek sons.
I have no idea how I found Pacific Geek but I did and I ended up ordering a couple of keyboards that they were selling for free. Yes, you read right. The keyboards were free and the shipping only $4.99 so I got a couple keyboards plus a couple mice. I didn't need them but show me a sale and I'll find something to buy.
Since then, I have shopped with Pacific Geek three more times and I have been pleased with the service and the items I received.
What the Site Sells
This is a liquidation site. They have a load of computer parts, components, actual computer systems, electronics, cases, media, batteries, software, and so much more. Most is computer oriented but they have things for other electronics as well. Some items are new, some refurbished, and some are scratch and dents. Different items are listed all the time and sold out ones are removed so you never really know what you will find.
The Site
This site has so much stuff on it yet is easy to navigate and very simple looking. The home page has a lot going on but nothing blinks or pops up thankfully.
All categories are listed down the side. The current deals are pictured in the middle. The deal of the week link is at the top and on the right are a bunch of other offers, informational things, and links.
Still, with all that going on, everything is easy to understand.
Also, every day they have what is called a "Nooner" which is a special deal at noon that goes on sale until all inventory is gone (Think: Woot's midnight deals but at noon). You often can pick up a Nooner any time depending on what it is and how popular it is.
You can click on the link that shows all items that they offering free shipping for which I always do first or move on to a regular search.
You can search for what you want, browse categories, or click on the deals area and check out the deals. If you sign up for newsletters, you will get a lot of them but each one has either a special shipping deal or a sale item just for members. I don't mind the daily text newsletters and like to know what the day's Nooner is.
If you see something you are interested in, click in it and the picture will get larger. You can inflate the photo more by clicking on it again. Descriptions are complete with full disclosure as to whether the item is new, refurbished, or out of the packaging. You will also see how many of the items are in stock.
If you want something, click to add it to your cart.
Each time you do, you can input your zip code and state to find out your shipping charges. I have never done that because I always got either free, $1.99, or $4.99 shipping through the codes they sent me in the newsletters. I do highly suggest, if you are going to shop on this site, to sign up for the newsletter, if only to save big on shipping.
They have a price guarantee so all you need to do is to request a price match. Enter the website URL where the item is selling lower, your name and email, and they will give you the same lower price if it is the exact item.
Computer geeks will love this site, I think. I don't know anything about cards and I/O controllers or even memory but I managed to find things I needed with relative ease.
When you're done shopping, go to checkout. Fill out your details and choose whether you want to register. Your shipping charges will be displayed and you have a choice of several types and speeds of shipping to choose from.
Give them your billing address if it is different and your mailing one and pay with a major credit card or pay by Paypal.
You will get a confirmation email and a shipping one. Orders arrive in a week or so.
My Experiences
I can't remember how I found this site but I was lured by the free Dell keyboards. I picked up a few things and really didn't have a lot of confidence in the site. A liquidation site with such low prices ... ehh. I have been burnt before.
However, I made an order and everything went just fine. Packing was not bad. The items were bubble wrapped and boxed and arrived in a week or so.
I signed up for their emails and was lured again by free shipping and the Nooners. I bought a replacement battery for one of my cameras and a Nooner carrying case. That order was promptly shipped as well.
My next order, I got some weird card thing my son wanted for his computer and some weird other thing my other son "had to have" as well as a few things I actually knew how to use. This time, I had a $4.99 shipping code for any size order.
Same things happened. I got a confirmation email and a shipping one and I got my items as described in a week or so.
My last order arrived today and, again, everything is as promised.
The only thing I did worry about was packing. Things were bubble wrapped well but there wasn't much packing material in between so everything could smack against each other in shipping. Everything works fine though.
I won't hesitate to shop at Pacific Geek again. I am not sure if I would sink huge bucks into something but I will continue picking up the things I need at the great prices they charge and watching their Nooners for steals.
I have never gotten an upsell call or any hard sell at all and everything has worked fine for me.
Shipping and Returns
Shipping charges depend on whether you pick their free shipping items, if you have a code from their emails (usually it is $4.99 an order) or if you are shopping without a code. If you don't have a code (but really, DO have one!), charges are determined by the type of shipping you want and the speed of shipping you need.
They warranty everything the sell for a minimum of 30 days.
All items returned within 30 days of receipt in original packaging will get a 100% refund or exchange minus any shipping charges. No restocking fees!
You do need a RMA number so you need to contact customer service by mail or phone before sending items back.
Although the official FAQs say that all prices are final because the market changes fast, they will honor real time price comparisons and will give you the exact item for a lower price if you find it.
Conclusion
Pacific Geek may be well known among computer geeks but I never knew it existed. I stumbled upon the site and now am a fan of it. I know this is a liquidator and don't expect to buy brand new, name brand high ticket items for dirt cheap but they have a load of components, parts, accessories, and stuff to keep me coming back to see what's new. Their Nooners are fun and their shipping deals and two-for-ones are always fun.
This site has not failed me. I have gotten what I ordered in a timely manner. Nothing's fancy the site, the pictures, the shipping boxes but the prices are good and the items have all been in the condition described.
I give this site 4 stars for everything they are and for what they aren't. They don't do the "authorization call up sell" stuff and they don't bait and switch. From my experiences, this is an honest site that exists to fill a niche. Check it out. You may find something you need or want there for lower price than other sites. Just know, if you sign up for their emails, you will probably get one a day. If you hate email, you may not want to sign up but then you will miss out on the shipping codes and member specials.
