The Sock Company isn't a very pretty site but it has a huge variety of socks as well as other accessories for rock bottom prices. I will sacrifice pretty for savings!
I found the site while searching for The World's Softest Sock and their prices were lower than anyone's. I then got all caught up searching the site and was impressed with the variety and prices.
What the Site Sells
This site sells many brands of socks for all activities from casual to sporting. They also have underwear, hats, gloves, scarves, undershirts for men, some clothing and even sun and skin care products.
Navigation and Ordering
The site is not fancy nor even really attractive at all. It has just a long list of brand names and products. After you click one, various product links come up. Click one of those and all the offerings come up. You can also see a full list of all brands or do a search for what you want rather than browsing the links. Pictures are very small and are not zoomable. Descriptions are very short. If you want and item, you click to put it into your cart. The cart is a typical Yahoo one. You won't see your shipping charges but it is a flat $5.95 for orders under $58.95. Orders above that amount are free to ship in the US.
Checking out is as simple as filling out your address and providing the site with your major credit card details. The order is processed and you will get an email immediately confirming it. Later, you will get a UPS shipping notice. Orders are shipped via UPS Ground and take a between two and six days to get to you. They are in New Jersey and I am in New York and it only took three days for my order to arrive.
Orders arrive simply packed and as described.
My Experience
I landed on the site from a search. I never heard of it until then. The socks I was looking for were almost a dollar a pair cheaper than anywhere else on the net and I was pleased. I ordered a few pairs then, as is the norm with me, started to searching the rest of the site. They had some great prices! Navigating wasn't all that simple but it isn't so difficult that people would be turned off. I found several items for my sons and a few more for myself. I didn't know at the time that shipping was free over $58.95 (although it says it in bold print on the home page. I didn't land on the home page so I missed it.) so I was shocked when my $65.00 order showed free shipping and no tax. Bonus!
Checking out was super fast. I provided my info and didn't have to register on the site. I could have but chose not to. I used my MasterCard and received my confirmation letter immediately. A day later I got my shipping email and a few days after that, my order arrived. It was packed very simply but there isn't much packing finesse needed for socks and underwear.
Everything was as described and just fine. I had no need to return anything and will definitely return to the site again. It's not super flashy but it saves me cash and that's really the bottom line for me.
Shipping and Returns
As I mentioned, shipping is a flat $5.95 for orders $58.95 and under. It is free over that amount. You can choose expedited shipping for a fee.
You may return anything for a full refund (minus any shipping charges). They have a 100% guarantee on everything they sell. You just need to fill out the return form on the back of your invoice and send the items back. If there was an error on their part, they will pay for returns and refund shipping. You can opt for a refund or an exchange.
Tax is only charged to send to New Jersey. Yay! For once, New Yorkers aren't hit with tax!
Conclusion
The Sock Company is much more than socks. It has many items that people need at prices that are lower than most other sites. They sell lots of brand names such as Calvin Klein, Thorlo, Champion, and Columbia — all firsts, no seconds or "irregular" items.
The site also encourages suggestions about what consumers want to buy and they take the suggestions seriously and try to stock what their customers want.
They have a good return policy and they are fast to ship. They sometimes are out of stock of items that are popular and low priced but you know it while you are shopping so you aren't disappointed after you order like on some sites.
In all, I couldn't be happier with this site. I give it 4 stars and a strong recommendation. You won't believe the deals you can get on a big variety of items.
